It Was Never About Love

“It was never about love.” He told his daughter, Aisha.

“Oh common dad. You can't say that. I know you love mom. You yourself have told me so several times.” She was shocked on hearing him and denied his words.

“I did love your mom and still do. But what I'm trying to say is that it wasn't about love in the starting, when we had just met.” He chuckled, explaining the meaning behind his words to his 26-year old daughter.

“Oh...” Aisha trailed off embarrassed that she had assumed too soon.

“Yeah, Oh…” her dad mocked lightheartedly.

“But on a serious note, Aisha. I wasn't looking for love when I met your mom. I was looking for a companion to spend the rest of my life with. I was looking for a friend to stay by my side in all times. And I thought your mom would be great as a life partner. I turned out to be right, didn't I?” he smiled reviving the pleasant memories.

“Yes dad, you were right. And I'm going to follow in your footsteps. Tomorrow when Rishab and their family come home for this meeting or whatever it's called in arranged marriages, I won't search for love. I'll follow in your footsteps and search for friendship. Thank you dad.” Saying this, she hugged him tightly.

“Yeah, you do that. After all, friendship is required to keep any relationship alive. Before being anything more, you need to be friends first.” He said, hugging her back.

  • Very nice and very well written!

You just explained your whole article in a single line "Friendship is required to keep any relationship alive"

    Keep writing!

  • Indeed.

"Losing a friend is more painful that losing a relationship" Now-a-days, people are taking relationship with different meaning. But where there is friendship there is love. If a person can't be your friend , he/she can never be your soulmate/partner etc.

Very well written Anusha. Deep but precised.
