“I never thought such a day would come when I would be able to achieve such heights and make you guys proud.” She told us with tears in her eyes.
“Sarika, you've really achieved very great heights dear and we both are very proud of you.” I told her truthfully.
“Yeah Sarika we have and we always will be proud of you.” her mother said pulling her in a hug.
“I know mom, you guys have always been with me and I'm very thankful for that.” she replied.
“You know, when I failed in tenth, I thought my life was done for, destroyed. All my friends passed and got into college while I remained behind. And what's worse was that not only did people blame me but they uttered words which made me believe that my life was over.” she continued with a defeated sigh.
“I mean, I knew that failing was my fault. It was me who was distracted from studying. I was the one who lost focus. And I was guilty for the same. But them rubbing it in my face was too much to handle. I shouldn't have let that bother me but it did. And it bothered me to such an extent that I even thought of…” she trailed off.
“But you both stood by me. You made me believe in myself. You made me strong. Yeah, I remember how you scolded me in the beginning.” she let out a chuckle. “But you stood by me and have supported me till date. And I'm truly lucky for that. I'm lucky to have you both as my parents. You guys are the best.”
“Yeah, everyone says the same to their parents. And plus we've not done anything extraordinary. We just did what any one else would have done for their child.” I told her honestly.
“Oh, but you've done much more than you give yourself credit for. You not only stood with me but also stood against those people who told you to give up on my studies and get me married. You didn't pay any heed to them and supported me. If not for you guys, forget about getting this award, I wouldn't have been able to do anything with my life.” she almost broke down.
“Okay, okay, whatever you say is right. But can we proceed to have dinner now, please? I'm starving.” I said, hoping to divert her mind.
“Okay. But you guys truly are the best.” she said with a smile on her face.
Failure is the stepping stone to success.
